![]() The originality of the Midday Concert formula stems first of all from its timing: not many classical music concerts take place during one's lunch break. Many people would rather enjoy listening to baroque , romantic, or contemporary music rather than taking a long lunch break in a French bistrot. Every month, from October to May, the Concerts de Midi Association opens its doors to musicians from Brittany, with occasional special guests from other parts of France. The Franco-American Institute's auditorium is located in a small courtyard in downtown Rennes, surrounded by some of Rennes most beautiful and ancient architecture. The auditorium seats about 120 people, allowing for a friendly, convivial meeting place where musicians and audience can meet and discuss the works in a rare atmosphere of intimacy. The season's eclectical programming brings in a regular audience of persons who enjoy chamber music (roughly 3,000 people attended our concerts during this last season). The Concerts de Midi's organizer, Ms. Anita Toussaint, has arranged for the audience to have a light lunch before the concert, included in the price of admission. Sunday's concert is followed by an aperitif, whereas Monday and Tuesday's concerts are preceded by a sandwich and a bottle of mineral water. Imagine a program so varied that anyone can discover new music, musicians, instruments or instrumental formations: this is the goal of our association. The Concerts de Midi Association, created in 1994, today offers one program each month, presented three days successively. During the 2002-2003 season, music will exist alongside other arts: painting, sculpture, and interior design : the concert organizers have decided to model the musical stage according to the theme of the month's concert. Just a little reminder that different forms of art can co-exist, and all forms of art are welcome during our concerts. Anita TOUSSAINT is the president of the Concerts de Midi Association. She was born in 1963, and began her musical studies in the city of Romans, in her native departmental district, la Drome. She continuted her studies at the musical conservatory in Lyons, then at the CNSM conservatory in Paris, studying under Pierre Amoyal. She has been a replacement artist in various Parisian orchestras (most particularly for Radio France). These experiences allowed her to forge a solid experience in orchestra work and also to encounter a great number of musicians. Anita is a musical ecectic. She has participated in various performances in musicals or easy-listening concerts (most notably with William Sheller), all the while frequently performing chamber music. In 1990, Anita decided to leave Paris and joined Brittany's Orchestra as a violinist,. She still holds this position in addition to her role as concert organizer. In 1998, when the founder of the Concerts de Midi Association resigned, she became president of the association. With her desire to help contribute to a larger offering of chamber music to the city of Rennes, Anita Toussaint shares her passion for music and her knowledge of musical artists, allowing a large audience to discover new artists and composers in a friendly atmosphere.
